Immigrant Mom Describes Troubling Parallels between Chinese and U.S. Education

Addressing the Colorado State Board of Education during a recent meeting, Chinese immigrant Lily Tang Williams explained why she “strongly” opposes the federal education guidelines known as Common Core.

The oft-maligned curriculum, she charged, bears striking similarities to the “communist core” system of education under which she was taught in her homeland.

“Is this what we want in America?”

She explained that history lessons are tainted by revisionism in China with students unaware of the significance of events including the 1989 protest in Tiananmen Square. Unfortunately, she continued, Common Core introduces the same concept in classrooms across America.

“Do you know what’s going to be on U.S. AP History tests? American exceptionalism is gone …. Capitalism is gone.”
