The Black Conservatives Fund released a video Monday showing Opelousas, La., Mayor Don Cravins Sr. imploring a crowd of fellow Democrats to vote twice just before last month’s midterm elections.
“If you early voted, go vote again tomorrow.”
While his statement in reference to a particular ballot initiative was met with some laughter from the audience, Cravins made no effort to confirm he was speaking in jest. In fact, he continued by assuring voters that they would not face any consequences for perpetrating voter fraud.
“One more time’s not going to hurt. Tomorrow, we’re gonna elect Earl Taylor as the D.A., so he won’t prosecute you if you vote twice.”
Not only is Cravins the mayor of a Louisiana town, his son and namesake currently serves as Sen. Mary Landrieu’s chief of staff. The younger Cravins was reportedly in the audience as his father made the request.
