In addition to the last-minute decision of an Idaho Indian casino, there have been efforts across the nation to prevent legendary musician and outspoken conservative Ted Nugent from making scheduled appearances.
Longview, Texas, went so far as to pay him not to show up at a recent event while a protest is set to take place in New Jersey ahead of a tour stop in that state next week.
It was in response to backlash against his inclusion in a Wisconsin music festival that Nugent let loose on his detractors, though.
“I take it as a badge of honor that such unclean vermin are upset by me and my positive energy.”
He went on to disparage those behind online petitions, letter-writing campaigns, and other efforts to keep him out of the Oshkosh show.
“By all indicators, I don’t think they actually qualify as people; but there has always been a lunatic fringe of hateful, rotten, dishonest people that hate happy, successful people.”
Regardless of the hurdles he faces, however, Nugent has no intention of letting his opponents silent him.
“I believe raising hell and demanding accountability from our elected employees is job one for every American. I am simply doing my job.”
