When Phil Robertson expressed his Bible-based view of sexual sin in a GQ interview earlier this year, a firestorm erupted resulting in his short-lived suspension from the A&E reality series Duck Dynasty.
The show’s loyal audience — many of whom appreciate the Robertson clan’s unabashed Christianity — demanded the network reconsider, however, and the family patriarch was soon reinstated.
Jase, Robertson’s second-oldest son and another breakout star of the series, recently confirmed rampant suspicion that the GQ interviewer behind the controversy might have been motivated by contempt for the family’s faith.
“He was using four-letter words, a lot of F-bombs, he was making fun of some of the things we hold true. The first statement of the whole process was, he looked at me and said, ‘Do you actually expect people to believe that you waited until you got married before you had sex?’”
He explained that the entire family was present when the dialogue started at the elder Robertson’s home. When the reporter’s disrespectful tone became clear, however, Jase said he asked his father to call off the interview before leaving the scene.
