Feminism has experienced a precipitous drop in popularity compared to its heyday during the 1960s and 70s. As proponents of the ideology struggle to maintain a foothold among young women, rising female role models continue to dismiss the movement as outdated and irrelevant.
Actress Shailene Woodley recently added her name to the growing list of celebrities who reject the ‘feminist’ label and, in a recent interview, singer Lana Del Rey joined her.
She asserted that it “is just not an interesting concept” to her, explaining she would much rather discuss ideas like “our intergalactic possibilities.”
Del Rey did have an interesting take on a movement that has largely been hijacked by radical crusaders.
“My idea of true feminism is a woman who feels free enough to do whatever she wants.”
Unfortunately, the activists responsible for defining this philosophy seem far more inclined to associate with women who think all sex is rape than those who hold a position like Woodley or Del Rey.
