The issue of immigration is one that has incited significant debate across the ideological spectrum. While plenty of Americans continue to believe those who violate U.S. law should be held accountable, an increasing number in both parties feel some level of amnesty is needed to effectively deal with the current illegal population.
In any case, the invasion of Mexican citizens is a familiar problem. Far less prominent, however, is what is reportedly frequent incursions by the Mexican army via America’s southern border.
Sen. Tom Coburn is trying to bring attention to such an incident earlier this year, during which soldiers crossed into Arizona and aimed their weapons at U.S. Border Patrol agents.
Experts contend this is far from an isolated incident. As Border Patrol union boss Art de Cueto explained:
A lot of these encounters happen in the middle of the night where, you know, the lighting is low and you don’t know who you’re encountering.
Border security analyst Sylvia Longmire cited federal reports that show Mexican soldiers have invaded America at least 300 times over the past 18 years.
